Introductions

The Joy of Painting first aired in 1983 - 40 years ago, the same year the internet was invented - though it would take another 13 years for the average person to have daily access to the web. I didn't just know all of this, I was thinking earlier that I kinda hate the internet, and then I needed to use the Internet to find out when it was created… That rabbit hole learned me quite a few interesting things, made me feel smart. I like feeling smart, so I guess I like the internet? Let this be proof that logic tests don’t tell the whole truth.

If you’re new here, and there are A LOT of new people here, over a thousand new subscribers in just the past few months - Welcome to the Greyt Culture Team Letter. My name’s Thomas - frequently known as “Tom Fox” if you’re into the whole brevity thing - I’m a creative producer and made Greyt Culture as a banner to share music, art, and creative people I find inspiring many years ago.

Bob Ross was right. There is joy in painting. There’s joy in just about everything if you look for it. Easy to say, and I wish I was an eternal optimist ray of sunshine but it takes work to dig the spark of meaning from stuff like an overcooked filet, a broke-down car, or worse - I promise, for somebody, joy is there in everything. If you’d like to meet people who absolutely love what they do, stop by any of our events (or better, participate by pitching something you love that you're working on). This Friday our main feature is Jackie from FOUNT Leather Goods. If you can’t make it there are three more Greyt Big Talks (GBTs) this fall and I’ve listed what I know is happening below. We’ll be talking about topics like artisanal product design, identity, renewable energy, and "show business."

I do have an extra announcement today - We’re hosting a special Golden Hour Concert during the Forbes30 Under 30 week in partnership with JobsOhio and the Cleveland Talent Alliance. It’s going to be incredible. heading back to TRUSS at INTRO on Monday, October 9th featuring Collin Miller & The Brother Nature. I’ll personally be moderating the Tech Talk on The State of Cleveland VC. Sign up now if you'd like to join us.

We have had some new members since our last talk - Daniel Vujanov, Eric Gatchalian, Andrea Ferman, Jane Li, Yan Maschke, and CSU's Monte Ahuja’s Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Members are the driving force of Greyt Culture so please sign up to bring yourself and a guest to all of the Greyt Big Talks.

See you soon - Much love,

Thomas
