Moon Hooch
Brooklyn horn-and-drums trio
Moon Hooch is a horn-and-percussion band from Brooklyn that started out playing New York City subway platforms in 2010. Saxophonists Mike Wilbur and Wenzl McGowen, who met as students at the New School, built a sound on unusual tonguing techniques and found objects like traffic cones fitted to the bells of their horns.
The band went on to tour with Beats Antique, They Might Be Giants and Lotus and to headline its own shows across the country, adding electronics and synthesizers to its live sound. The recent lineup is Wilbur, McGowen and drummer Cyzon Griffin. After 15 years of touring, Moon Hooch began an indefinite hiatus in 2026.
