79.5

79.5 is a New York band led by singer-songwriter and keyboardist Kate Mattison and named after an imaginary radio station. Its sound slides from '70s underground disco to sugary girl-group pop, with jazz harmony under R&B hooks and Mattison's Fender Rhodes at the center. The New Yorker wrote about the band on the strength of its live sets, and the 2016 single "Terrorize My Heart" became a DJ staple, championed by Gilles Peterson and Q-Tip and added by Questlove to his 100 Essential Songs You Should Know playlist.

Singer Lola Adanna joined in 2019 alongside longtime saxophonist and flautist Izaak Mills. After the debut album Predictions (2018), 79.5 released its self-titled second album on Brooklyn label Razor-N-Tape in 2023, co-produced by Mattison and Aaron Frazer, and 79.5 Remixes in 2024.
