Cleveland Institute of Art

College of art and design, University Circle

About the organization

The Cleveland Institute of Art is a college of art and design in University Circle that has been cultivating creative leaders since 1882. It began that year as the Western Reserve School of Design for Women, in founder Sarah M. Kimball's home on Euclid Avenue, became the co-educational Cleveland School of Art in 1891 and has stood as an independent school ever since a merger with Western Reserve University fell through.

Today its campus on Euclid Avenue is home to studios, galleries and the Peter B. Lewis Theatre, where the college's Cinematheque screens films.
