East Cleveland Public Library

Public library and Carnegie landmark, East Cleveland

About the organization

East Cleveland Public Library serves the city of East Cleveland from its main library at 14101 Euclid Avenue, an original Carnegie library that opened on May 29, 1916. The Carnegie Corporation of New York helped pay for the building, John D. Rockefeller gave money for land to grow on, and the company that became GE Lighting donated its light bulbs.

The building has been renovated and expanded several times. A 2005 addition brought the Debra Ann November Learning Center and the Greg L. Reese Performing Arts Center, which hosts concerts and community events. Today the library offers a makerspace, a creative print center, a free summer lunch program for young people, a Toni Morrison book club, a garden program and the Icabod Flewellen Collection.
