Bio

Mai Moore is the founder of Empowering Youth, Exploring Justice (EYEJ), a Cleveland nonprofit that helps young people become advocates for the change they want to see. She started EYEJ in 2013 with members of Plymouth Church, UCC, after the acquittal in the killing of Trayvon Martin, asking how Cleveland's young people could be heard, safe and supported.

Rather than open another hotline or resource center, Moore wanted to meet young people where they are. EYEJ's core program, YDJ: Youth Discussing Justice, pairs two adult facilitators with small groups of students in Cleveland schools to talk through conflict resolution, police and youth relations, mental health and building trust between youth and adults. Its Youth Council lets older students lead their own campaigns on voting, policing and the digital divide. EYEJ has served more than 2,000 young people with the help of over 1,400 adult volunteers.

Before EYEJ, Moore was a marketing executive with Travelzoo and Splash Financial and then an independent marketing consultant. As EYEJ's executive director she was named to Crain's Cleveland Business list of top nonprofit CEOs and Cleveland Magazine's Give Cleveland 200.
