In Future

I’m curious, what's your threshold for something to happen and your reaction is “damn, we’re IN the future." Like, let’s say, Hypothetically, you’re having a conversation with a random person in a cafe. You exchange pleasantries, before asking a practical “hey do you know where the bathroom is in here?” and then Tiffany, perfectly normal, sweet might have a little crush Tiffany… says, “um, let me check” there’s a short hiss, her head mechanically detaches from her body, rises from her shoulders and floats to the other room out of sight.

Stay with me. I’m certain this isn’t normal for anyone, yet, but I wanted to overshoot to ask in earnest… what’s it take to blow your mind? To make you stop and say, "what the hell is this reality we’re living in?" For me, these days I could see a talking hologram you can interact with and keep walking, and then stop everything to text a friend “have you ever put salt & pepper on an orange?” Living a step into science fiction all the time makes life weird, really just staggering at times. Maybe it’s always been this same 'ol same as it ever was, but regardless, things make more sense when I’m with other people who also think life’s weird - So I’ll fight for that. You, me, Friday morning at 8:30. As we prepare for the coffee talk Friday, I want to call a few important thoughts on my mind right now.

  1. We’re currently living in war-time, that’s real. Macro-economic sanctions to help resolve the fighting are creating financial hardships that are easy to complain about. Please keep that close when prices for everyday things hurt - we’re privileged to live in a time when we can help fight for peace using money.

  2. We should still dance. Greyt Culture is throwing a mini urban setting music festival in less than three weeks. THREE WEEKS. This is an immensely unique occasion for a private arts organization to put forth, Cleveland does not see this kind of thing often. MOON HOOCH at the Vibe Garden will be very special and I hope you’ll be there!

  3. Pitch your Projects! If you’ve never grabbed the mic before. Take it! If there’s somebody that’s got a little something going on others should know about, ask them to pitch. Would really love to see some new faces come to take the light: Sign-ups are here:

An important note. Our speaker has had a personal emergency and canceled his SXSW conference appearances and also, sadly, will not be appearing in person for Greyt Big Talk on Friday. We’re working to make another plan for just exactly how this is going to go. I anticipate we’ll have an exceptional time Friday. -Thomas T. Fox GREYT CULTURE // About the Greyt Culture Team Email.
