“It’s a crap deal, and if an organizer quits, it’s the same crap deal for the next person…”
Hi Friends.
The words above are from yours truly, an excerpt from the end of a 2-page letter I wrote to the global CreativeMornings organization criticizing their policies and practices over their (lack of) funding and insular monetization structures over two years ago — before we dive in, Is it too early to read something this heavy? Well, fry a fine piece of rye and fix it with fig jam, this big lift deserves a SNACK.
I’ve been making distance between my work to organize art, music, and creative community projects from the CreativeMornings brand and gradually produced programming through Greyt Culture for a few years now, partly inspired by the aforementioned monetization issues. I wasn’t expecting this to be the month we’d make the change to fully leave the CM brand behind, but if something is no longer serving you and the growth of who you are going to become… you should let it go. The final straw for me was over a policy that in order to resume gathering our community in-person, the entire United States would need to reach zero cases of covid-19 (Smh) ZERO!? - I’ve always been told I’m difficult to manage because when rules make no sense, I tend to ignore them, follow my integrity, and do what’s best for the people around me. You can expect this to continue until I’m in the ground.
For 6 years I’ve had the distinct joy of organizing the creative community in Cleveland, around 10,000 attendees, over 70+ gatherings with leaders in art, business, and industry sharing their expertise and encouraging each of us to individually be curious, and reach higher to live our own beautiful lives - A journey that will now continue free from restraints under a new name.
Please join me in exuberance for this month’s breakfast lecture - The first-ever:
GREYT BIG TALK! taking place in Cleveland Public Square
'BIG TALKS will be very familiar to anyone who has ever attended a CreativeMornings Cleveland event.
There will be music, there will be breakfast, and coffee, and artisans, and pitches for projects emerging from a spark of an idea in your own imagination. There will be art, conversation, and words shared from world-class creative leaders living right here in our own neighborhoods. There’s even free registration, but now including an option to purchase a ticket for anyone who would like to support the program. As we make this big change we’re also welcoming a few new sponsor partners, and including options for large companies to purchase table space next to our artisan features at each event.
5 'Big Talks are planned through the end of 2021, which will be some of the best events we’ve ever made - plus 2 more Golden Hour rooftop happy-hour concerts. The future looks bright, thank you immensely to this community for being part of this journey.
Many of the things we need are taken care of and most of the feature spaces are filled - but if there’s something I’ve missed below please reach out, I'm always excited to hear from you.
