Thirty Dialogues Bleed Into One

Good. Day. To You All!

I wrote down the Death Cab For Cutie quote in the subject line on New Years Day with every intention of writing you… then realized I had not one single piece of CreativeMornings totally in place for this month to share. I’m not exaggerating, New Years Day, sitting on nothing, zero, bupkis. Not a great place to start but that’s ok - with vim I made to set down my annual nostalgia cocktail induced by the holiday and tackle my towering task list. Of course that woulda been easier if Québec City didn’t give us the theme ROOTS to work with this month.

Roots… "Should I slide in Questlove’s DMs and see if he can make it?” I asked myself. Questlove, if you’re not familiar, has a regular gig playing drums with the legendary Roots troop on Jimmy Fallen. He’s also a DJ. I saw him play in Austin a few years ago… at Cheer up Charlie’s, I recall. A great spot. On a separate occasion, I went dancing there with the host of another CreativeMornings chapter from Southeast Asia. She was actually from Siberia but had been working in Thailand, Malaysia, and a few other places around the pacific. She’d be headed to Spain and Portugal next. - Roots - I remember sharing with her over a bottle of Topo Chico how much I admired her ability to fearlessly move such great distances, across cultures, dialects, and other unknowns for her daily life. Stoically, with equal sincerity she volleyed, “I admire your roots"

I’ve lived in Cleveland all my life, part of a big family with over half a dozen nieces and nephews I care to be around… and after 10 years of working in arts and culture on my own direction and curiosity, I could know no other place to be home in the same way. Since this experience is all I know, It’s easy to forget that laying roots in a place, splintering a web of relationships across a small patch of land, is as wonderful, terrifying, and brave as wandering the planet’s surface totally untethered. And just like that, I couldn’t wait to kick the cascading switches to gather everyone for this month’s coffee talk.

Dr. Patricia Princehouse is a world-leading researcher on paleoanthropology, studying the origins of humankind. She’s based right here, working out of Case Western Reserve in University Circle.

I know I always say, but THIS one will be wonderful. Details for this month’s event below. If there’s something wrong, something missing, something could be better… reply here and let me know you can help! Thank You all for your support! Oh and it’s the first CM of the year, a good time to invite friends, co-workers, clients, enemies, competitors, estranged family, your Lyft driver, or anyone else you’d like. Everyone’s creative, everyone’s welcome... unless the registration is full.

Cheers,

T. Fox
