Pediatric neuropsychologist, MetroHealth

Melissa Armstrong-Brine, PhD, is a clinical psychologist and pediatric neuropsychologist at MetroHealth in Cleveland, where she directs the autism and neurodevelopmental clinic, and she holds a faculty appointment at the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. She specializes in identifying and treating neurodevelopmental disorders.

She did her clinical training at Saint Louis University, completed her internship at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center and finished with a two-year clinical fellowship at the University of Missouri's Thompson Center for Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders, where she stayed on as faculty for several years. She came to MetroHealth in 2014 to direct its Autism Assessment Clinic.

She has a strong interest in the diversity aspects of autism spectrum disorder and in making sure culturally sensitive evaluations and treatment are available to families across Greater Cleveland. With her colleagues she built one of only a few clinics in Ohio that evaluate people for autism across the lifespan, and one of only a few in the country offering interdisciplinary evaluations with a team of Spanish-speaking providers.

About this event

Melissa Armstrong-Brine poses a lot of questions challenging popularly preconceived notions of what Autism is, and follows them up with answers. Her goal in this short virtual event is to give a firmer understanding of the developmental disorder, what it is and what it is not, as well as provide some guidance on how to recognize and talk about autism with people we love.
