About the organization
The Julia De Burgos Cultural Arts Center celebrates and strengthens Northeast Ohio's Latino culture and heritage through arts education, creative expression, and chances for artists, young people and the wider community to connect. It was founded in 1989 by Daisy Rivera with the Cultural Educational Institute for Boricua Advancement (CEIBA) and the Hispanic Parents Union, who shared a long-held dream of a family-centered home for Latino youth and their families.
The center teaches and practices the visual, performing and literary arts and works to keep Latino heritage alive across generations. It is named for Julia de Burgos, the Puerto Rican poet, educator and activist, and it is based at 2800 Archwood Avenue in Cleveland, where visitors are welcome for tours by appointment.
