Doc Harrill
Founder and executive director, Refresh Collective
Doc Harrill, also known as Dee Jay Doc, is a self-taught hip-hop artist and producer turned teacher, and the founder and executive director of Refresh Collective. He started it in 2011 as Fresh Camp, a free neighborhood summer hip-hop program in Glenville, and it has grown into an arts-based youth development organization serving students and adults in Cleveland and Cincinnati, with embedded studio classrooms and songwriting and recording programs built on a trauma-informed, therapeutic curriculum.
For more than 30 years he has worked as an MC, turntablist, producer, recording engineer and performer, playing hundreds of shows, and during Refresh Collective's founding years he personally helped more than 10,000 young people write, record and perform their own songs. His song "Trust Belt City" was turned into a concerto that he performed with the Cleveland Contemporary Youth Orchestra, and Cleveland Magazine named him one of Cleveland's 30 Most Interesting People in 2017.
His passion is mentoring the next generation and creating meaningful jobs for his students, refreshing the heart of the city one song at a time.
Greyt Quote

“How we spend our time, how we spend our money, each of our creative pursuits, finding that teenager that needs us, building that trust with our neighbor, this is how we roar!”
