Nikki Villagomez
Typography speaker and author
Nikki Villagomez is a nationally recognized speaker on typography and the author of Culture+Typography: How Culture Affects Typography. Since 2012 she has kept a blog of the same name about how place and culture shape the lettering around us, from storefronts to manhole covers, and she has given her talk to dozens of AIGA chapters and at events such as HOW Design Live and TypeCon. By day she is chief marketing officer of BRC, a CPA and advisory firm based in Greensboro, North Carolina.
A graduate of Louisiana State University with a BFA in graphic design, she worked as a designer in New York City before returning to her home state of South Carolina as a full-time freelancer. She founded and served as president of the South Carolina chapter of AIGA, taught graphic design and typography at the University of South Carolina and the University of Akron, and later managed the creative studio at the accounting firm Dixon Hughes Goodman.
